Why do we serve the poor?
How can we not care? |
That is the question
Brother Ignatius presented to us last night in our evening discussion. Many
wonderful answers were given. Because Jesus asked us to do so. Because all life
is sacred and we are called to protect life. Because it makes us more
human---without love, our lives are empty.

Br. Ignatius then gave us one more idea to
ponder---solidarity. When Jesus came to earth, he came as a lowly man. He
didn’t snap his fingers and give us the grace of forgiveness. Instead, in
solidarity with mankind, he became man and experienced our daily joys and
troubles.

He probably even got mosquito bites at times. And of
course, he suffered greatly in the end.
We too, in solidarity with the poor, can work with
them and experience their lives—both the good and the bad. In this way, we can
more fully experience humanity, just like our Lord did.
On the path to bless a home
I thank God daily for this chance to seek solidarity with all mankind. Amen, Alleluia!
